Take a look behind the scenes and see what community ideas and other improvements we are working on, as they are being developed.
Don't archive vacancy on expiration
Personally I like this next new feature a lot. Why? Because it is a quite simple setup option that can save you a lot of time.
To make dealing with expiration of vacancies as easy as possible, peoplexs does some things automatically for you when the expiration date is reached. The vacancy is removed from all portals. It is marked as unpublished for reports and it is also archived so you main vacancy overview screen only shows the vacancies that are currently ongoing.
Nice that all these things have been done for us, but depending on your recruitment process, this is not always the smart thing to do. And it usually isn't because the vacancy still has to be dealt with after it is removed from all portals. For some companies, first then the real work starts.
To give you more control over the archiving of the vacancy we added a new setup option "Archive vacancy on expiration", that you can toggle on and off:

The default will be that this option is checked and vacancies are archived on expiration. When you uncheck the option, vacancies will be unpublished from all portals but are not archived. You will find it in "Setup - data management - archiving".
You can try the new option on our Labs server.

New integration options for your Intranet
When you have plugged in peoplexs in your Intranet to let managers handle applicants and create requisitions, these new integration options might be something for your company. A little warning though, to implement these new features you need help from your IT departement.
The new integration options let you use the Intranet's look & feel for the managersportal so managers feel that the Intranet and peoplexs' managersportal are one and the same application and it will give them a consistent user experience. Secondly, when you have a central task or to do list for each user on your intranet, you can now add peoplexs tasks to this list. And when your manager clicks on a task that originates from peoplexs, they are presented with the task directly, without logging in to peoplexs.
If you think these options could be of interest to extend your Intranet, our helpdesk can provide your IT departement with more information on how to implement these options. You can try the new integration options on our Labs server.

LinkedIN Profiler
One more LinkedIN feature in the upcoming release (see also the previous post about the LinkedIN Company Insider), which you already can have a look at on our Labs server.
The "LinkedIN Profiler" shows a candidates' LinkedIN profile inside peoplexs. Each candidate in peoplexs has a small "IN" button: when you click on it you see a summary of the LinkedIN profile of the candidate.

For the Profiler to work you need to add the field "LinkedIN Profiler" to your application form and to enable the field inside peoplexs: go to "Setup - Customise - Candidates - Custom forms - Setup standard forms" and check the "LinkedIN" field. Now the new option is available within your version of peoplexs.

LinkedIN Company Insider
The upcoming release (end of november) contains a nice LinkedIN feature, which you already can have a look at on our Labs server.
The "LinkedIN Company Insider" shows who you might know through your LinkedIN network. Each account in peoplexs has a small "IN" button, when you click on it you see who you know at that company.

Great to check references, or to see who you might know at (prospect) customers. It is also possible to use this on your career portal. This will allow candidates to see who they might know within your (customer's) organisation.
To setup in peoplexs, go to "Setup - Customise - Accounts candidates - Custom forms - Setup standard forms" and check the "LinkedIN" field. Now the new option is available within your version of peoplexs.

SEO improvements 1
The upcoming release (end of november) contains a number of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) improvements, which you already can have a look at on our Labs server. This was initiated by the following idea on the (dutch) community Find vacancies in Google.
This is in short what it is all about. Many customers use the standard vacancy portal of peoplexs. It is easy to plug in to your website, easy to adapt and gives you instantly a nice featured career portal with jobalerts, tell a friend, etc. When the customer wanted more, you could use webservices instead which gives absolute freedom, but is more difficult (technical!) to implement. Especially if you wanted to do something with SEO, webservices were the only option.
We have now improved the standard vacancy portal so it is possible to improve SEO without the use of webservices.
This was the problem with the standard vacancy portal, a Google search result would show something like the following:

The title of the vacancy is unclear, it links to a page on peoplexs.com, and when you would click on the link you would only see the vacancy, and not the customers website around it as you would have seen it when you would have navigated to the vacancy through the company website.
Now you can use your own domainname, like vacancies.mycompanyname.com so in google you would see the correct domainname right away. The title is adaptable so you could show the name of the vacancy (or other info you might like to use as a title). And when you click on the link the vacancy is shown within the context of your website.
What to do? Change the setup in peoplexs (go to setup - customize - self-service - portals - vacancyportal - vacancyform - setup) and enter your current website domainname at "frame URL". Also connect the appropiate field in peoplexs you want to use as the title at "TITLE tag". Finally you would also need to enter in "frame redirect URL" the address of a script that has to be made by your IT departement (see below for more instructions for your IT departement).

But before changing this in peoplexs, sit down with your IT department or IT supplier and ask them to make some small changes to your website concerning the following wish-list (apologies for the upcoming technical language I will now usew, but then you can discuss it right away with your IT department):
- Change the DNS and add a new domainname, like vacancies.mycompanyname.com and let that link to ssl1.peoplexs.com. Use this new domainname only to be able to make the necessary links and dont change the domainname of you current (career) website.
- Make a script and put that on the webserver which opens the peoplexs iframe with the extra parameter "VacatureID", which we pass on when calling the script.
Maybe you have seen there were more options available in setup, which I will take up in another post on this lab, to be continued...

Welcome to Labs
Welcome to peoplexs Labs. Here we will give you an preview of what community ideas and other improvements we are working on, as they are being developed.
With the new "Labs" you will not have to wait unto the final weeks before the release when you receive the release notes. You can see what is coming out of our hands and how we have interpreted your ideas while we are working on it.
In the community spirit it is possible to comment and discuss with each other and directly with our developers. So you will not only have insight on what we are working on, but you are also able to influence the final outcome. To avoid raising expectations to high, not everything that is set in motion will see the light of day. As with real "Labs" :-)
We are at the moment preparing our first articles on LinkedIN, SEO and also "print all". In these articles we will also describe how and when these new features are available on our Labs server, so you can try things out for youself.
